Weekly Bulletin

May 9, 2013

This time of year it’s easy for us to rush; rush through our days and weeks doing our best to urge summer to quickly appear.  However, weeks like this are worth slowing down, so you can enjoy it a little bit longer.  The faculty and staff have been showered with appreciation this week, and the acts of kindness have certainly warmed the hearts of the Oakwood family.  We would like to thank the PSA along with students and parents that have worked hard to make this week so special!

March for Babies:
Community Service Initiative

Students in all divisions have heard about The Oakwood School’s involvement in March for Babies during morning meetings. This important drive is organized to help fund important research and programs to support healthier babies and help bring an end to premature births. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to serve the greater community.

In the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools students have received March for Babies money envelopes to remind them about this fundraising effort, and most students have pledged to raise money or to donate their own money to financially support this cause. Many Oakwood students may also march and/or volunteer to help at the start and finish areas of the walk on May 18th.

Important Details

Volunteer Appreciation Reception Following Assembly in Library on May 22

The Oakwood School’s administration, faculty, staff, and students invite all of our parents and school-wide volunteers to join us for our End of Year Assembly to honor the Class of 2013 Seniors.

We also plan to recognize and thank the many “behind the scenes” volunteers that make The Oakwood School such a vibrant place!  One of Oakwood’s Belief Statements is, “We believe that both within and beyond the school walls, students learn that service to others is one of the deepest satisfactions the human spirit can know.”  Thank you to all Oakwood volunteers for being role models to our students with the gift of your time and talents serving the school!  Volunteers who have served throughout the year will be recognized and include:

  • Board of Trustees and its committees

  • Fine Arts Support Team (FAST)

  • and much, much more!

Please pass the word around…we hope to see you then!  Also, plan to join us for a Volunteer Appreciation Reception immediately following the assembly in the library.

Reita Watson Tribute Video Now Available

Did you miss the Reita video that played at the auction? If so, then you missed seeing students express what Mrs. Watson means to them and even break out into the Tooty Ta!

Staff, faculty, and students did a wonderful job of showing Mrs. Watson what she means to us.  Now you can order a copy of the DVD to cherish forever.  Enjoy the commentary as well as a blast from the past as we see pictures of Mrs. Watson through the years here at Oakwood.

The DVD is $15 and all proceeds go towards the playground fund, per Mrs. Watson’s request.
