GREENVILLE MUSEUM OF ART STUDENT ART EXHIBIT AND RECEPTION – MUSICIANS WANTED
Dear Parents,
This month we will have our annual Oakwood Art Show at the Greenville Museum of Art from February 12 – March 9. The reception for this show will be on Sunday February 19th from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. As we have done in the past, I would like to invite our talented student musicians to come and perform a song or two for the parents and guests. There will be a piano and music stand available and students will perform in the front room of the museum. This is an opportunity for students who study an instrument to get some performance practice in a low pressure setting. Please email
me if your child would be interested in performing for this event. I will be happy to accommodate your schedule. The more, the merrier!
Also, if you are interested in helping with other aspects of this art show, we can use your help. (hanging artwork, refreshments for reception, etc.) Thanks for your continued support of the Fine Arts Department!

ONCE UPON A TIME there was “INTO THE WOODS”
The Oakwood Upper School is presenting the musical “Into the Woods” by Lapine/Sondheim on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on March 16, 17, & 18 at 7:00 PM and 3:00 PM respectively. Ticket prices are $5 for children and seniors and $10 for adults. We need lots of help from parents for makeup, costuming, building and painting sets, selling tickets and everything.
WORLD WATER DAY
We are pleased to announce that for the first time, The Oakwood School is participating in World Water Day. International World Water Day is dedicated to bringing awareness to the importance of water quality.
On Thursday, March 22, 2012, we will raise awareness about this issue by Walking for Water, a fundraiser in which students from the Upper and Middle Schools walk 6 kilometers (around 3.7 miles) carrying 6 liters of water in a backpack. This distance is the average distance that women and girls in developing countries must walk every day, typically carrying 20 liters of water.
Students will ask their family, friends and neighbors to sponsor their walk. The money that the students raise will go to water and sanitation projects in developing countries. For more information you can visithttp://www.walkingforwater.eu/ .
The walk will take place in the morning hours of March 22nd. Students will traverse the nearly 4-mile trek on the South Tar and Green Mill Run Greenways. Support volunteers will be recruited from the Upper School to man the start, finish, and rest areas; encourage the walkers; and help keep the pace. Parent volunteers are also welcome to participate in the event. For more info, contact Keyla Thompson atkthompson@theoakwoodschool.org.
BRITISH SOCCER CAMP AT OAKWOOD
