Special Events: Mark Your Calendar
Lower School Transition Information Gathering
The Lower School will have their Transition Gathering on Thursday, February 23, 6:00-7:00.
Although this year is in full swing, I know that you are thinking ahead to the next school year. The students will have an opportunity to visit the next grade level classrooms in mid-May. During this time, they will have the chance to meet the teachers in the next grade level, see the classrooms, and ask questions about what they can expect as they come back in August for a brand new school year.
Parents as well will have the opportunity to meet the teaching team for the next grade level for their children. Parents will meet with both teachers from the new grade level, listen to a short presentation about curriculum and expectations for the new year, and have an opportunity to ask questions of the teachers. It is my hope that you will leave the event full of excitement and anticipation for what lies ahead for your child.
Please know that this is a parent-only event. The evening presentations and questions should only take an hour.
I do hope you will be able to join us for the Information Sessions on Feb. 23rd. If you have any questions about our Lower School event or if there is anything that I can do to help you or your child finish out this school year successfully, please do not hesitate to stop by my classroom, or you can always reach me by email at sbrown@theoakwoodschool.org.
Sincerely yours,
Susan Brown

"INTO THE WOODS" musical presented by The Oakwood Upper School on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on March 16, 17, & 18
ONCE UPON A TIME there was “INTO THE WOODS”
The Oakwood Upper School is presenting the musical “Into the Woods” by Lapine/Sondheim on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on March 16, 17, & 18 at 7:00 PM and 3:00 PM respectively. Ticket prices are $5 for children and seniors and $10 for adults. The show has been cast and rehearsals are taking place. We need lots of help from parents for makeup, costuming, building and painting sets, selling tickets and everything. Ms. Sauls and Ms. Scully are working on dialogue, singing, and blocking actors. The cast is so excited as well as the teachers. Mark your calendars for this spectacular event!
Oakwood seeks to instill water awareness in local community through Walking for Water
Participants will walk approximately four miles while carrying six liters of water in a backpack. The distance signifies the average distance that women and girls in developing countries must walk every day, while typically carrying 20 liters of water.
Students will ask family, friends, and locals around the community to sponsor their walk. All money raised during Walking for Water will go to water and sanitation projects in developing countries. For more information, visit http://www.walkingforwater.eu/.
The four-mile walk will take place on the South Tar and Green Mill Run Greenways. Support and parent volunteers are asked to help assist in manning the start, finish and rest areas; and are also welcome to participate in the walk if interested. For more info, contact Keyla Thompson at kthompson@theoakwoodschool.org.
