We pride ourselves on technology at Oakwood. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for a rapidly changing global society and technology as an integral part of class instruction and learning in all grades. Our faculty works to incorporate technology as an effective tool while students learn to purposefully collect and analyze information and to use technology to create, communicate, collaborate, and demonstrate their growing understandings of the world around them.

Applying Technology

Starting in PK3, PK4, Kindergarten, and through 3rd grade, each student has a dedicated Apple iPad. Their screen time is limited to curriculum reinforcement integrated with developing fine motor control and hand-eye coordination. Spelling, reading and math skills become more challenging as they progress through the Lower School. Once they rise to 4th grade, all students are required to purchase their own Apple iPad to use through 7th grade. Students in 8th through 12th grades are required to use either an Apple iPad or Macintosh laptop.

Oakwood students learn to use technology as an everyday part of their 21st century classroom. Middle School begins the process of using technology as a tool to create content and present their ideas to their peers and teachers. By the time students reach Upper School, technology is a seamless part of the fabric of every student's education and learning.

Digital Citizenship

Our students are citizens of the world, and we recognize that in the 21st century there is little divide between the digital and physical worlds. Our emphasis on integrity, honesty, moral courage, personal accountability, and compassion for others applies to all aspects of our students’ lives. Through class discussion and advisory groups, our faculty helps students to understand the modern challenges of digital communication, information permanence, and the long-term implications of a student’s online footprint.
