Overview
At The Oakwood School, the interscholastic athletic program is an important part of the student’s experience. Oakwood is committed to providing competitive opportunities through interscholastic, recreational, and intramural sports programs. Oakwood believes competitive athletics teaches lessons in teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership and the value of sacrifice for the good of a common goal. Athletics can teach students to deal with the elation of success and also the disappointment of failure and how to benefit from both.
Oakwood’s commitment to athletics is reflected in the diverse offerings for its students each year with more than 80% of Oakwood’s students in grades 6-12 participating in at least one sport including baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, and volleyball. Our no-cut policy encourages all students to confidently pursue participation on our teams. Oakwood’s commitment to athletics is visible in our successes over the recent years.
Oakwood is a member of the Carolina Independent Athletic Conference (CIC) and a member in good standing with the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA), which provides rules and regulations for team play and hosts all the state championships for the independent schools in North Carolina.
